64th Birthday of the LEGO brick

64th Birthday of the LEGO brick

Today International LEGO day, as LEGO celebrates the 64th birthday of the brick. It is held annually to celebrate the day that Godtfred Kirk Christiansen filed the original patent for the LEGO brick.

The LEGO brick, which was granted its patent 29 January 1962, was patented in Denmark, the USA, and several European and African countries.

The humble brick was like no other, as it had an advanced interlocking method which made the LEGO brick strong and versatile. When fitted together, the strength of the LEGO brick is such that it less likely to break apart if dropped or knocked over.

Perhaps the best way to pay tribute to this special day is spend time building with LEGO.
