LEGO® goes Back to the Future
LEGO® revs our engines with the announcement of the iconic 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine. And the amazing DeLorean drives again!
After many rumours, LEGO® put us out of our misery with the release of the 2022 “Back to the Future Time Machine”.
LEGO® says:
“Inspired by the DeLorean car seen in the time traveling adventure film franchise from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, the LEGO® Back to the Future Time Machine set allows builders to create the car from either the first, second or third movie.”
Since producing the Ideas DeLorean Time Machine in 2013, there has been much hype for a follow-up model that adds depth in its detail. To be fair, the original Ideas set had 401 pieces, but had incredible details for the limited number of parts.
(Out of interest, the original LEGO® Ideas set, 21103, carried a RRP of $34.99.
Today the set trades at around $182.00.)
Into 2022, the Back to the Future Time Machine, with its 1,872 pieces delivers something spectacular. The dimensions of the DeLorean are 35.5cm × 19cm × 11cm and includes 2 minifigures; Marty McFly and Doc Brown.
This is a three-in-one set in which the 2022 set allows the LEGO® builder to choose and build one of three of the DeLorean Time Machines from Back to the Future I, II or III. I have already heard some saying they might be getting three boxes so that they can build and display all three models. Just wow!
The design of each set is without a doubt on the mark and will not disappoint. The excitement will be to see the techniques that the designers have used to complete each model.
LEGO® says that “the new LEGO® Back to the Future Time Machine set is available for the recommended retail price of £149.99 / $169.99 / €169.99 at LEGO® stores”.
LEGO® loves to include “Easter Eggs” in this sort of build, i.e., little additions or features that give a wow factor or make it extra special.
This set includes several of these, such as …
Marty’s hoverboard
swappable licence plates
opening gull-wing doors
For me, the I am curious to see how the iconic light-up flux capacitor looks and interacts with the DeLorean.
Because the set releases 1 April 2022, we do not have very long to wait.
Whichever model you choose to build, enjoy the build.
