There are many new sets releasing in August 2023. Here are some of my favourites. There is definitely something for everyone in the line-up.
LEGO Architecture
It feels like a while since the last LEGO Architecture set was released. I think the wait has been worthwhile, as we look forward to seeing the Himeji Castle. The set number is 21060.
This set is released in the “18+” range and is built with 2,125 pieces. The price per piece is fairly good for the builders who might be interested in parting out this set.
The built dimensions measure 32 cm (12.5 in.) long by 19.5 cm (8.5 in.) in height.
This set is beautifully designed with really clever use of pieces, such as the dark bluish grey boomerang used to provide detail to the outer castle. The castle is a fortress set on top of a hill top. It is described as the finest surviving example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture, comprising a network of 83 rooms with advanced defensive systems from the feudal period.
Prices announced:
- Internationally £139.99 / $159.99 / €159.99
- In South Africa, ZAR 2,899.00
LEGO Dreamzzz
This new LEGO theme launches in August 2023 and boasts 11 new sets. There are some epic new sets, designs and minifigures that are there to capture the imagination. The colour spectrum is amazing.
LEGO.com says this “LEGO® DREAMZzz™ playsets encourage kids to unleash their imaginations and harness the power of dreams as never before. Based on the characters and stories of the hit LEGO DREAMZzz TV show, these innovative building sets use story-led instructions that invite kids into the action and give them the freedom to create any fantastical creatures and vehicles they can dream up.”
“Watch kids aged 6+ use these fantasy toys to unlock their creativity and explore imagination without limits.”
The first episodes of the LEGO DREAMZzz tie-in TV series are already streaming on the official LEGO YouTube channel.
LEGO Icons
There are two announcements that we can look forward to, being the 10315 Tranquil Garden and 10321 Corvette.
While I love the Corvette, but I am most attracted to the Tranquil Garden. It captures the imagination and commands absolute peace.
This LEGO Icons set is built with 1,363 pieces and hosts a variety of botanical pieces that includes everything you need to build your very own Zen garden model with a pavilion, arched bridge, stream, koi carp, lotus flowers, trees, rocks and stone lanterns.
I particularly appreciate the detail that has been put into the pond surrounding the main structure such as the koi printed tiles. This 1,363 piece set will look amazing as a display piece.
The measurement dimensions are 21 cm (8 in.) high, 32 cm (12.5 in.) wide and 20 cm (8 in.) deep.
LEGO Marvels
Announced among the new sets for August 2023 are 76249 – Marvel Super Heroes Venomised Groot and 76262 – Marvel Super Heroes Captain America’s Shield.
The shield is amazing and it measures over measures over 47 cm (18.5 in.) in diameter.
However, it is the 630 piece Venomised Groot captures my imagination.
Groot – or is it “I am Groot” – is a beloved character in the Marvel series. Groot has been built in a “life sized” character in set 76217. But this is a transformation of the loveable character into something more sinister.
Venomised Groot will display nicely with the original “I am Groot” and will definitely gain much attention to this model which is something that could come from a horror novel.
LEGO Star Wars
There are three new Mechs coming in August, being:
These add an exciting new dimension to Star Wars and Mech range in LEGO. It begs the question whether there will be more. If there are more, this may be a highly collectible range to collect and/or invest in.
But I am most curious to see how the 332nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper Battle Pack will be received. Battle Packs are always a big hit for Star Wars fans looking to create a big army. As an example, the 501st Clone Troopers Battle Pack has consistently been sold out. Will this Battle Pack follow the same fate.
Large armies are popular among collectors. There is every reason to believe that this will be just as popular. If this is something that interests you, best then to get your order(s) in early.
LEGO Technic
LEGO Technic launches four new sets in August 2023, which are all outstanding in their own rights:
42161 – Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica
42160 – Audi RS Q e-tron
42159 – Yamaha MT-10 SP
42146 – Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000
The monstrous Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000 has definitely gained much attention. Its size commands consideration. It holds much playability and fun for the builder of this set. Even though the price per piece is quite expensive, fans of this type of build will enjoy building, displaying and entertaining the public with its capability.
For me, it is the Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica and Yamaha MT-10 SP that grab my attention.
I am curious to find out if the Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica will fit into my 42098 – Car Transporter. If it does, I will be super excited about this addition to my collection.
I have just built the 42155 – The Batman Batcycle and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of this set. There were some challenges during the building of this model, which ultimately made it an enjoyable build.
It was my first build of a motorcycle and I really enjoyed the journey.
I am therefore looking forward to 42159 – Yamaha MT-10 SP
Are there any favourites in your list for August sets?
Happy building!
