New LEGO Speed Champions in 2023

A new lineup of LEGO Speed Champions are available in 2023. Five new cars have been announced and I love what I see.

76915: Pagani Utopia

76916: Porsche 963

76917: 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34)

76918: McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM

76917: 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) was the first model to be announced – and will be available in January. I have seen a few hands-on reviews that confirm it will look great in your collection.

It will look especially great next to the 76912: Fast & Furious 1970 Dodge Charger R/T Model – if for no reason but to continue the nostalgia of the movie series. The set includes the minifigure of Brian O’Conner.

The model is inspired by the real-life version with its iconic stripes, wing at the back, a grille up front and engine components on the passenger seat. The model is built with 319 pieces.

Perhaps the only concern I have is the stickers down the sides of the car. These are a strong feature of the car and will need to be precisely applied.

The remaining four models, it seems, will be released in March 2023. So, still a small wait.

76915: Pagani Utopia

While the announcement of the remaining models is fairly recent, they promise to be beautiful models to build. I love the look of the 76915: Pagani Utopia, as I think it will look really good alongside the 76911: 007 Aston Martin DB5 (this was also my favourite Speed Champions build of 2022).

This is the first time that LEGO have teamed up with the Italian car brand. Viva!

Not all Speed Champions enthusiasts have welcomed the change from 6-studs wide to the 8-studs wide model. However, this added width gives designers more room to provide the details many of these models need.

The light-bluish grey is really effective in accentuating the contours and lines of the model. Looking at this model, there appears to be several clever techniques and the use of parts. This is something to look forward to.

76918: McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM

LEGO’s partnership with McLaren continues in 2023 (thankfully, viva!).

LEGO have provided two models in this set, 76918: McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM. The build includes 581 pieces. Both look amazing.

This is a set I will get, as both models have great contours, lines and style. I am also fascinated by the use of pieces – especially in the McLaren F1 LM, which has oar built into the sides of the car. Nice! I cannot wait to see what other clever techniques have been used to create these stunning builds.

Both the Porsche (280 pieces) and Ferrari (261 pieces) models are must-get for any collection. I looking forward to their release and hopefully I can provide a review here. It is early days, but do you have any favourite models you would like to get?

Polybag?

In the past few years, in each year there has been a polybag released in Speed Champions. These smaller models have been amazing little builds. I have been looking out for this on the internet, but found nothing yet for 2023. I hope the tradition continues and we see something in 2023.

Happy building!
